Transdev Behind-the-Wheel Trainer in Chula Vista, California
Teaches Fixed Route Operators to operate a transit bus and transport passengers safely in accordance with Company policies and local, county, state, and federal laws.
We are looking for dynamic BEHIND-THE-WHEEL TRAINERS. The role of a Behind-The-Wheel Trainer provides effective one-on-one training to new operators and trainees. This training is essential to ensure and maintain the highest standards of safety and service. Provides behind-the-wheel training for new operators and trainees.
Conducts on-board evaluations and in service training to operators according to schedule and/or need
Provides behind-the-wheel retraining as directed
Performs check rides and road observations as requested
Completes documentation forms in accordance with State, Federal and local requirements
Provides cadets with on the job training
Evaluates new operator driving skills using appropriate checklists and evaluation forms
Provides appropriate feedback to new operators
Assesses the competence of new operators
Ensures operators are fully trained behind-the-wheel prior to being released into revenue service
Serves as role model and mentor to new operators
Identifies retraining needs
Recognizes and reports safe and unsafe acts / conditions to Management
Provides feedback to Training Manager, General Manager, Operations Manager and other appropriate staff regarding training needs
Assists training department in identifying additional or refresher training needs based on current trends within the employee base
Other duties as assigned
Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience as an operator.
Must have and maintain qualifications to operate all equipment utilized within the location.
Must have and maintain all required licenses and certifications. Must hold Behind-the-Wheel Trainer Certification.

Skills and Knowledge Required:
Good motor skills, good hearing, accurate color perception
Ability to apply proper driving procedures
Ability to learn transit routes and schedules and adapt to changes; ability to read a map
Ability to read, understand, interpret, and explain transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, phases and routes
Ability to assist handicapped passengers when needed
Basic math and writing skills
Ability to work well with and train labor
Travel requirement (as a percent): 80% of time is spent in the field, 20% of time is spent in an office or training room
Satisfactory attendance record, with no more than one (1) unexcused absence in the previous six (6) months.
Excellent customer service record, with no customer complaints in the previous twelve (12) months.
No preventable motor vehicle accidents within the previous six (6) months.
No more than three (3) minor moving violations within the previous 36 months; no major moving violations.
No preventable work related injuries within the previous twelve (12) months.
No disciplinary actions within the previous six (6) months.
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
Primarily seated in vehicle; stress caused by instruction and traffic
Must be able to work in all types of weather
