The Human Resources Generalist assists unit leadership in understanding and communication of HR policies and procedures, and handling compliance issues.
Minimum salary $45,000
Consults with operations management on human resource issues related to hiring, compensation, training and development, disciplinary actions and terminations
Assists with the understanding of human resource policies and procedures
Handles compliance issues
Coordinates the hiring process including candidate screening, hiring, new employee set-up, payroll, and leaves of absence
Serves as the liaison between the unit and the Regional Human Resource Director
Maintains confidentiality of all information
Maintains a wide variety of payroll information (e.g. direct deposits, pre-notes, W-4s, leave balances, salary, levies, garnishments, voluntary and involuntary contributions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of documentation and compliance with established policies and regulatory guidelines.
Compiles and transmits payroll to ADP (such as hours worked, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records) and enters data or computes and posts wages, and reconciles errors, to maintain payroll records
Ensures that all employees are paid on time and that their paychecks are accurate
Resolves discrepancies with payroll and/or documentation (e.g. payroll, withholding versus W4, leaves of absence, separating employees, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of records and employee payments.
Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments
Prepares periodic reports of accruals
Prepares and issues paychecks
Assists with filing, answering of phones, preparing employee files, and administrative tasks as assigned.
Assists with the employee life cycle process to include: application, pre-interview investigation and screening, hiring, new employee setup, payroll, leave of absence, and resignation/termination processing.
Other duties as required.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required :
- High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field preferred
- 2 to 4 years of relevant human resource experience, including recruiting, selection, and employee relations, required
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Understanding of employment laws and regulations
Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to read, understand, and interpret instructions, policies, and procedures
Strong written and oral communication skills; strong presentation skills
HRIS, ADP, and investigative experience preferred
Travel requirement (as a percent): Frequent travel to meet the needs of the business
- Must submit to drug testing and a background check
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
