Transdev Director of Paratransit Services in Garden City, New York

The Director of Paratransit Services for Nassau County will report directly to the location Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will provide management support to others within the area of responsibility at this location. This position will be responsible for paratransit operations for the contract. This position will have direct supervision of staff support, drivers, and dispatchers/road supervisors; be responsible for customer satisfaction and relations; operational services, and ensure that the highest quality of service is provided at all of the delivery systems within their area of responsibility. In addition to routine transit operations, this position will also have direct responsibility for management of the Call Center and associated personnel, software, and operations.
Provides guidance and supervision to operating locations. Assists with the establishing business unit goals and financial performance criteria for operating locations.
Effectively communicates with employees concerning location and company goals, objectives and policies. Coordinates frequently with staff to maintain continuity in policies and procedures.
Develops and recommends policies and process change in order to ensure efficiency of the operation.
Assists with daily operations and other issues.
Coordinates and communicates with Maintenance staff to ensure availability of fleet.
Oversees compliance with labor contracts and ensures cost beneficial resolutions regarding labor/employee grievances.
Ensures all safety-related company policies and procedures are adhered to within assigned area.
Ensure all paratransit standards of care are maintained with a safety-first and customer service orientation.
Manage the call center and associated dispatch.
Ensure that Trapeze is installed and maintained, in conjunction with the IT team; ensure that all personnel are adequately trained on the software and its application for the Nassau project.
Maintain all KPIs for proper call center efficiency and recognize/correct/report deficiencies as necessary.
Maintains contacts with key customers to ensure overall enhancement of service levels, addressing and resolving service issues, while maintaining or improving service.
Assists with establishing performance and other goals. Assists with planning and coordinating strategic manpower issues.
Identifies areas for training improvement within the department. Report’s findings to the COO.
At the direction of the COO, incumbent will manage relationships with employees, externally with customers, suppliers, and contractors, industry associations, the community, politicians, regulatory agencies, and the media.
At the direction of the COO and jointly with the Director of Safety & Security for the contract, assists with compliance of all safety training/standards and requirements to include drug and alcohol training/testing.
In conjunction with COO and Director of Finance for the Nassau location, develops annual capital and operating budgets and plans, provides ongoing monitoring of results and achievements of targets. Responsible for attainment of business and financial objectives and asset management.
Prepares necessary reports and ensures senior management and support staff are informed on business issues and pertinent matters.
Other duties as assigned by management to ensure the smooth operation of the Paratransit services
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent knowledge in Business Administration, Logistics, or Transportation.
10+ year’s operations management or transportation/safety experience.
5+ years specific to Paratransit operations
Labor relations experience, inclusive of contract negotiations and arbitrations.
Proven experience dealing with state and local government.
Business development experience.
Cost control and financial/budget experience handling multiple locations.
Knowledge of federal and state employment laws (FTA, FMCSR, Title VII, ADA, OSHA, etc.); understanding of Medicaid requirements for ADA service.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Highly organized with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while exceeding established goals and objectives.
Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possess good judgment and discretion.
Excellent presentation skills required.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Must be detail oriented and possess effective time management skills.
Must be a self-starter and highly motivated.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software.
Approximately 20% travel among the properties contained by the contract; and within the general local area.
