Transdev Scheduling & Planning Analyst in Garden City, New York

This position is responsible for compiling and analyzing a wide variety of ridership, scheduling, operations and field data to develop and maintain efficient fixed transit routes and regular and complex schedules. Performs run cutting functions. The Transit Planning & Scheduling Analyst participates in the development of new and/or modified bus routes; the production of public timetables and driver schedules; and the gathering of a variety of performance data, including on-time performance, passenger loading and related data. Analyzes route performance data related to the number of drivers and available equipment for optimum use of resources; and sets parameters for run cuts to achieve efficiency and meet budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • The Planning and Scheduling Analyst compiles and analyzes traffic and operating conditions, passenger loads, ride-checks, Automatic Passenger Count (APC) and Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) data, schedule adherence, running times, and other data to identify problems and determine if schedule or route changes are needed.

  • Develops estimated costs for new routes, as well as for existing routes.

  • Creates, updates, and maintains scheduling data in scheduling software, including the development and maintenance of:

  • running times, trip nodes, deadhead links, layover times, time-points, as well as assist with destination sign codes, uses data to develop appropriate running times, analyzes data to develop efficient blocking, analyzes layover times, evaluates system trip route connectivity and makes appropriate trip modifications and recommend changes when appropriate.

  • Conducts field studies for existing or proposed routes to determine operating and environmental conditions for recommending service changes and/or new routes.

  • Composes draft and final operating schedules for new or modified transit service routes with the location’s computerized scheduling system .

  • Ensures that schedules are cost efficient and cost effective, comply with appropriate service standards, and utilizes appropriate and other cost containment methods.

  • Additionally this individual performs computerized run cutting and reviews of route schedules.

  • Assesses collective bargaining agreement proposals and operator requirement.

  • Assists with the maintenance of run cutting parameters, collective bargaining agreement requirements, and related input in coordination with other staff; assist the Operations Department with the preparation of pick and operation documents, including the headway reports, operator paddles, and street by street route directions.

  • Investigates, responds to, and compiles complaints regarding schedules.

  • Updates database with service improvement information, and coordinates with IT Department on all ITS related issues pertaining to the Trapeze and other system.

  • Also coordinates and assists the Marketing Department with schedule production.

  • Works with the Planning staff to assign manual ride-checks for special or unusual traffic check and/or surveys assembles related statistical data and compiles reports.

Qualifications

  • College degree required. Completion of training and /or college-level course work applicable to urban or transportation planning is highly desirable.

  • 5 years of experience that provides familiarity with urban or transportation planning programs and activities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • A working knowledge of GIS and all Microsoft Office products including Excel. General comfort with technology.
