Transdev Operations Supervisor in Hyattsville, Maryland

The Operations Supervisor reports directly to the Operations Manager in fulfilling daily operations including but not limited to: route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers and coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the Operations Manager, complying with all Company and MetroAccess policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct a walk around the premises prior to beginning the day’s activities to evaluate the operation. This will include making documentation of items related to safety, checking parking conditions, random inspection of buses, cleanliness of the location, office and shop conditions, and all other items related to this evaluation; after which the operations manager shall report to the manager upon the completion of this inspection.

  2. Supervises A.M./P.M. sign in boards to ensure all routes run on time. Monitors operators to check that each is prepared to drive and has received notification of any route changes. Completes the A.M. dispatch log recording all operator tardiness and absenteeism. Assigns spare operators and buses as required to provide on time coverage of routes.

  3. Monitors radio communications during route times. Ensures that delays in service are recorded and communicated. In addition, makes sure all accidents or breakdowns are handled appropriately.

  4. Monitors operator absence and tardiness. Initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy. Advises Operations Manager of individual situations that require further attention.

  5. Is available at the dispatch counter after a.m. routes to assist operators with questions or problems. Supervises the communication of operator concerns or route changes.

  6. Assists the manager in meeting customer requirements.

  7. Assists the Operations Manager with supervision of location staff. Communicates job requirements and expectations. Monitors the performance of staff and provides coaching and guidance as required.

  8. Takes corrective action with an employee who fails to meet company policy or customer needs. Involuntary termination issues must be handled by the Operations Manager.

  9. When required, assists the Operations Manager in new hire orientations.

  10. The Operations Supervisor, with the Safety and Training Manager and/or worker compensation administrator, shall maintain all record keeping of Workers’ Compensation accidents. Reports must include the following:

  • Supervisor’s Report of Accident Investigation

  • First Report of Accident

  • Employee’s Report Summary

  1. In conjunction with Safety and Training Manager, act as a contact person for the controlled substance program. This includes pre-employment, random drug and alcohol, and reasonable suspicion.

  2. In the event of an important meeting, appropriate steps should be taken to represent Transdev with the highest regard to customer service and professionalism.

  3. Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of Transdev.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2+ years operations experience in a safety sensitive environment.

  • 2+ year’s previous supervisory experience.

  • Experience dealing with the Union and working in the transportation industry a must.

  • Valid CDL class B with passenger and airbrake endorsements.

  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.

  • Must possess ability to lead and motivate employees.

  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.

  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills a must.

  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.

  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.

  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.
