Overview of Position:
The Auto Paint and Body Technician performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and modification to vehicle body and interior mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components. Inspects equipment, structures, etc., of materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Analyzes information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Auto paint and body technician must have the ability to determine which specific parts or pieces of a vehicle that needs to be repaired or replaced. They must have the ability to provide an estimate that will provide accurate information regarding the work that will be required to restore a vehicle. This includes listing each part that must be repaired or replaced, along with the amount of time that it will take to complete the task. They will be required to remove damaged parts of the vehicle andreplacethem with repaired or new parts without damaging surrounding area.
Performs acceptance testing and pre-service inspections of new/repaired equipment.
Reads schematics, identifies symbols, uses tools, meters, gauges and other test equipment necessary to repair, and service these systems.
Prepares written reports indicating the corrective action needed.
Disassembles, cleans, inspects and makes repairs to defective body and interior mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Performs structural repair and re finishing of vehicles and equipment.
Fabricates exterior and interior panels, parts, and assemblies.
Safely employs various processes during fabrication.
Performs repair on fiberglass, metal and plastic panels and assemblies.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces body hardware, glass, and related parts.
Use the location maintenance information system to prepares work orders to document repair procedures, time and parts used.
Safely operates shop equipment such as fork lifts, lathes, drill presses, grinders, welding machines and other tools within tolerances by following verbal and written instructions. Understanding drawings and specification
Follows OSHA, company and departmental policies and regulatory guidelines.
Cleans assigned work areas.
Must maintain basic repair tools.
Other duties and related work as assigned.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications :
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent
Education Preferred: Graduation from a diesel trade school
Field and years of experience required:
- Three to five years' recent bus or heavy duty truck repair experience
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, and various heavy equipment engines, transmissions, starting and charging systems, air brake systems, electrical systems, and component overhaul procedures required.
Ability to operate hoists, machine tools and other related equipment required.
Must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
Must be able to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
Must possess basic computer knowledge.
Because this position requires operation of transit vehicles, a valid Class B driver license with Passenger endorsement and excellent motor vehicle record must be maintained.
Current DOT certification must be maintained.
Must satisfactorily complete job-related musculoskeletal screen. Use of personal tools required.

Must be able to work around vehicle noise and fumes.
Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
