Transdev Vice President of Labor Relations in Lombard, Illinois

Overview:

The Vice President of Labor Relations main responsibilities includeserving as chief negotiator for large and complex collective bargaining agreement negotiations; developing and leading the programs and policies that support a best in class workplace to maintain and improve a positive labor relation process for the organization.The VP of Labor is a key member of the leadership team and will also carry a full portfolio as a lead negotiator for complex and highly visible contracts. In addition, the incumbent will have responsibilities for direct management of the subordinate teams. This position is based in our Lombard, IL headquarters office, near Chicago.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets the long- and short-term strategy for the organization to better align labor relations programs with business goals and strategies.

  • Collaborates with other functional areas includingoperations, HR, finance, legal and communications; develops creative solutions to improving the work environment and labor relations.

  • Understands labor relations issues and grievance trends for the organization; develops approaches and solutions to pro-actively address negative trends.

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional employment legislation matters; coaches’ leaders on the latest trends impacting the organization.

  • Maintains a complete understanding of national and regional compensation, perquisites, benefits, and work practices; directs communication campaigns to ensure that employees understand work environment expectations and available services.

  • Develops and manages the annual operating plan for labor relations.

  • Coaches and mentor’s managers, leaders, and human resource managers and directors on labor relations, enhancing the work environment, and maintaining healthy relationships with and among employees.

  • Recruits, selects, develops, manages, motivates, coaches, and mentors’ managers and director; provides guidance and direction on problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering employee skills and development needs.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all information

  • Ability to represent and present the company’s position in a grievance/arbitration

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources or related business fieldrequired.

JD is preferred but not required

Field and years of experience required:

Fifteen (15+) or more years of relevant labor relations experience in a union environment required. Seven (7+) or more years of managerial experience required.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Must have a thorough understanding of National Labor Relations Act, progressive discipline process, negotiating strategy, economics of a labor contract, strike situations, and communication requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of labor relations rules and regulations at the federal and state level.

  • Familiarity with costing a labor contract.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Thorough knowledge of industry labor relations practices

  • Ability to build relationships with internal teams, clients, and union leadership

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization

  • Highly organized

  • Travel requirement outside of immediate area (75%)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

  • 100% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
