Transdev Vice President of Safety in Lombard, Illinois

Overview:

The Vice President of Safety will provide overall strategic direction and leadership in establishing a safety sensitive culture for all divisions of Transdev North America, which includes Transit, Rail, IntelliRide and OnDemand. This role will be primarily responsible for the creation of Safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all FTA, DOT, and OSHA standards, and the development and implementation of training and safety programs. All of which will reinforce our safety efforts and contribute to a system-wide reduction of accidents and injuries.

The successful candidate will have proven ability to drive safety strategy through the use of data collection and synthesis. Additionally, you will have executive level experience within safety with a proven ability and desire to collaborate with key internal stakeholders, influence senior leadership, and positively impact business results.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes data to identify potential risks and trends.

  • Communicates and interprets safety data to Senior Executive team.

  • Performs Data synthesis.

  • Ensures global and company Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)are developed, accurately tracked, analyzed and maintained.

  • Develops and maintains company safety policies and procedures.

  • Directs a team of Regional Safety Director's to ensure compliance with company policies and Federal and State laws regarding driver selection and safety.

  • Develops and implements driver selection and training programs; supports and advises on driver recruitment issues.

  • Oversees the SmartDrive contract and program management.

  • Manages safety vendor contracts and relationships.

  • Researches and develops programs for screening and training new drivers; tracking and reporting driver performance; continuing education, driver awareness and safety performance.

  • Develops and institutes programs to monitor and investigate workers’ compensation and auto liability claims; company drug and substance abuse policy enforcement; criminal record and background checks; and OSHA compliance requirements for the company.

  • Oversees and monitors the internal and external security plans and programs.

  • Directs and leads the company’s internal and external safety audit program.

  • Oversees WebRisk accident and injury portal for the safety department.

  • Assists and advises on risk financing issues, specifically the placement and maintenance of general liability, auto liability and workers' compensation coverage.

Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, advanced degree preferred.

  • Certified Safety & Security Director, WSO-CSSD or transit specific certification preferred.

Experience :

  • 5 years of Executive Level experience in Public Transportation safety.

  • 8 years of Management experience within Public Transportation.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to analyze safety and financial data.

  • Knowledgeable of FTA, DOT, and OSHA standards.

Travel requirement outside of immediate area 75%
