Dispatch assistants support dispatchers with various tasks in order to provide excellent service to customers.
Taking and handling calls from riders seeking information about the status of late pickups
Taking and handling calls and messages form drivers to help with same-day issues
Reviewing requests from drivers to have no-shows approved, and following all MBTA procedures before approving no-shows, including: checking and comparing promised pickup times with actual vehicle arrival times; using GPS to verify that vehicles are at the correct pickup location; attempting to call riders to alert them that the vehicle is waiting; and documenting the approval in trip notes.
High school diploma or GED
Excellent communication skills in person and over the telephone
Ability to maintain amiable relations customers and other outside contacts
Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new software
Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
Majority of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities
Majority of work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.
The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
