Transdev Assistant Maintenance Manager Streetcar in Detroit, Michigan


Transdev is looking for an Assistant Maintenance Manager to join our Streetcar operation in Detroit. The ideal professional has experience in Streetcar or Rail maintenance, and also has experience with overhead catenary. The Assistant Maintenance Manager will oversee all maintenance concerning vehicles, track, power, communications, signals, and facilities.


  • Provides supervision and oversight for the maintenance and servicing of the wayside assets and the Maintenance and Operations Facility per maintenance plans

  • Ensures all preventative and corrective maintenance is performed safely, properly and within the designated time/distance intervals

  • Ensures all safety and organizational rules, policies and procedures are followed by subordinates

  • Ensures and provides for accurate documentation in the MMIS program

  • Supports the wayside/facility mechanics by providing repairs and servicing as required

  • Ensure equipment/facility availability requirements are met consistently

  • Provides technical support for the entire maintenance team

  • Provides training support for the wayside/facility maintenance team

  • Ensures accurate documentation for data related to safety and training/qualifications of assigned maintenance employees including a qualified employee list

  • Provides on call supervision and maintenance of wayside/facility assets on a 24/7 basis as required

  • Supports the Streetcar Vehicle maintenance working group whenever required

  • Supports the transportation working group with all wayside/facility asset issues

  • Ensure adequate wayside/facility warranty administration and coordination with the OEM and sub-suppliers

  • Ensures adequate consumables and parts are available to support corrective and periodic maintenance of the wayside/facility assets

  • Reports all accidents, incidents, or unusual occurrences and accurately completes all required reporting

  • Provides contractual oversight to wayside/facility related contracts

  • Other duties as required.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required :

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required

  • CDL Preferred

Experience :

  • Approximately 3 years of progressive experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of heavy duty automotive and transit equipment (including rail and/or streetcar) equipment or related experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy duty transportation vehicles

  • Familiarity with laws/regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities

  • Ability to read, interpret and apply documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to read blue prints, schematics, and other mechanical and/or electrical diagrams

  • Ability to read and write routine reports, forms, and other documentation or correspondence

  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details

  • Ability to work well with labor

Travel requirement (as a percent): <5% for occasional meetings

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.

  • Frequently required to sit. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and smell.

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
