Transdev Public Information Officer/Clerk in Gretna, Louisiana


This position integrates three domains of responsibility into one role as part of the service that Transdev provides to the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) in New Orleans in its Public-Private Operating Partnership. This includes responsibility for External Communications (Media Relations and Community Outreach), Interagency Relations and Internal Communications. The PIO will manage two direct reports, and will report to the VP of Transdev who serves as General Manager of the contract with the RTA in New Orleans.


  • Responsible for managing the agency's reputation and image in the media and greater community

  • Will act as the public spokesperson the RTA

  • Responsible for community outreach and maintaing relationship with community partnerships

  • Develop comprehensive outreach programs to educate passengers and a wide variety of the community

  • Developing effective relationships to reach key stakeholders

  • Collaborating with the Marketing/Customer Experience team, HR, and senior managers to communicate with employees the RTA direction, vision and values

  • Prepare and manage the Public Information Office's annual budget

  • Manage the Department’s resources and staff to obtain maximum benefit through organizational structure, training, and leadership


Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required :

  • Bachelor's Degree required

Experience Required :

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of extensive executive-level management experience in a large public organization with demonstrated ability to direct complex media relations, marketing, communication, internal communications, community engagement and interagency relations programs, as well as a diverse staff.

  • Experience in the transportation field preferred

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Superior oral and written communication skills

  • Proactive style, self-starter who takes effectivve action to generate results

  • Ability to serve as a spokesperson in media and other venues to effectively communicate all topics

  • Ability to effectively direct, supervise, and evaluate staff

  • Ability to interact effectively with management, staff, politicans, business leaders, and others outside of the organizaiton.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer.

  • The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
