The primary responsibility of the Window Dispatcher is to support the para-transit bus operators in the delivery of services that are safe, reliable, customer-oriented, and cost effective. These individuals check drivers in at the start of the service day-providing them with a manifest and push-to-talk (PTT) device; they check drivers out at the end of the service day. The Window Dispatcher expedites and facilitates communication between the drivers and the Operations Control Center (OCC) on an “as needed” basis. They act as the first point of contact for operators in their communications with the Veolia Safety & Training and Maintenance Departments. Window Dispatchers input data into the Veolia Dispatch System (VDS) for attendance and payroll purposes; they enter information into Shadow, within Veolia Visions, to track operational occurrences and anomalies.

Responsibilities

  1. Checks driver into VDS as they enter revenue service;

  2. Checks drivers out of VDS as they complete the tour-of-duty;

  3. Assigns stand by (SB) drivers in the event of operator absences;

  4. Creates “recovery routes” in response to higher than anticipated trip volume;

  5. Creates “B routes” when vehicle malfunctions occur, operator issues develop, or emergency situations emerge;

  6. Enters data into VDS for payroll and attendance purposes;

  7. Maintains two-way communication with operators and intervenes with the OCC when necessary;

  8. Maintains two-way communication with operators and Veolia support groups (i.e. Safety & Training and Maintenance) to provide assistance where needed;

  9. Print and prepare manifest for next day service;

  10. Documents completely and accurately daily events related to service;

  11. Provides operational assistance to Transdev support groups, including Road Supervisors, for incidents, accidents, and injuries; and

  12. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-2 years previous dispatch and/or operations experience.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.

  • Must exhibit a temperament that exemplifies “grace under pressure”.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to be tactful under trying circumstances.

  • Must possess and exercise good judgment and discretion.

  • Must be able to distinguish between situations where urgency is required and where it is not;

  • Must be able to work as a member of a team;

  • Well-developed customer service and interpersonal skills;

  • Excellent communication skills-verbal and written;

  • Detail-oriented, well organized, possessing effective time management skills;

  • Proficient in the use of a Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package;

  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced operating environment; and

  • Able to use multi-line phone system and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
