Transdev Instructional Designer in Lombard, Illinois

Overview

The Instructional Designer (ID) is responsible for supporting internal clients as the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on design and development of classroom and online courseware. With a focus on leveraging technical instructional design methodology, the ID analyzes training requirements; attends SME meetings to develop course objectives, content, learner activities, and exercises. The ideal candidate will also have experience developing or facilitating training for leadership, compliance, customer service and call center areas.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with key stakeholders to identify job tasks and knowledge/performance gaps

  • Works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to clarify complex concepts, ensure accuracy of course content, and design instructional sound learning solutions

  • Develops and maintains project plans

  • Conducts training needs analysis to identify the knowledge, skills and competencies required to complete job tasks efficiently and effectively

  • Designs and develops creative learning solutions that include, but are not limited to, classroom training, eLearning and blended learning solutions utilizing engagement tools such as animation, interactions, gamification and other eLearning strategies

  • Develops an effective instructional strategy/learning plan and design documents for each learning intervention based upon established learning objectives and the characteristics of a given target audience

  • Writes and edits storyboards, interactive scripts, and other learning documentation

  • Designs and develops print materials including participant/facilitator guides and job aids

  • Authors eLearning and mobile learning using an array of authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline)

  • Ensures training materials’ content is clear, accurate, consistent, and free of spelling and grammatical errors for self as well as team members

  • Ensures team deliverables meet agreed-upon Instructional Design standards

  • Maintains high level of relevant product knowledge personally and within the team

  • Effectively and successfully manages multiple projects to achieve project goals and meet deadlines

  • Works collaboratively with local and global stakeholders and key personnel to achieve project goals

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, instructional design, or a related field

  • Minimum of 4-7 years of success creating eLearning courses

Experience :

  • Ability to create eLearning courses that drive desired behavior with measurable outcomes

  • Hands-on experience using eLearning development software, Articulate Storyline preferred

  • Experience building story based learning content

  • Hands-on experience using video recording and editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Camtasia

  • Proven ability in partnering with SMEs to turn complex technical training into interactive, easy to follow eLearning courses

  • In depth knowledge of Learning Management Systems and maintaining SCORM compliant courses and reporting

  • Proven ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio scripts, etc.

  • Proven visual design skills and ability to storyboard

  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once

  • Positive attitude; always willing to learn

  • Solid knowledge of instructional design techniques and adult learning principles

  • Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge

Travel requirement (as a percent) 15%
