Transdev Safety Director in New Orleans, Louisiana


The incumbent in this position will be responsible for the safety and compliance programs for Transdev Services, Inc., New Orleans Ferry Operations, and will direct and monitor all these programs, including all necessary record keeping, drills, exercises, etc. Along with the Operations Superintendent and Maintenance Superintendent, the incumbent will serve as the senior staff in support of the General Manager, and will assist the Operations Superintendent and Maintenance Superintendent with vessel inspection in order to ensure that the vessels are ready for inspection by the United States Coast Guard and will share on-call rotation with the Operations Superintendent and Maintenance Superintendent as the “on-call duty officer.”


  • General Safety, including: OSHA compliance; employee training; accident investigation/reporting; materials safety

  • Drug testing: will serve as the drug testing program responsible person, including pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing

  • Environmental Management System primary contact

  • Vessel compliance programs, including Non-Tank Vessel Response Plan; Vessel/Facilities

  • Security Plan )serves as alternate Company and Facility Security Officer)

  • Assisting the development, implementation and oversight of crowd control operations at the ferry terminals for large passenger events such as carnival season and other festivals

  • Performs other duties or assignments as directed by higher ranking personnel, including emergency situations such as weather events


Education, Certification Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity involving vessels, maintenance operations, or safety responsibilities. Prior work experience with direct responsibility for the safety of subordinates is a plus.

  • Ability to understand, interpret and implement a variety of regulatory programs.

  • Ability to obtain trainer credentials for a variety of training classes, and the ability to conduct that training, related to the safety and compliance programs

  • Ability to understand and follow, and to prepare for others written and oral instructions

  • Ability to use a variety of computer programs, such as Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.
