This position will perform routine and non-routine maintenance, diagnostic and repair work on Battery Electric Bus (BEB) & Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Hybrid Electric Bus (HEB) vehicles to Transdev standards. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles more complex problems and can resolve issues independently. Must also possess interpersonal skills & can effectively communicate & participate in a team environment. Must also be able to diagnose, maintain & repair Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) & Diesel-Powered vehicles.All work is performed with a commitment to safety. May mentor or provide guidance to Technicians in other classifications.

Major Responsibilities:

List in order of importance

  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs & troubleshooting of low & high voltage electrical systems with minimal supervision on both basic and complex systems of the BEB & HEB Fleet, such as high voltage battery systems, traction motors, inverters, and other high-voltage systems.

  • Perform high-voltage electrical repairs under minimal supervision including the removal & installation of high-voltage batteries and high-voltage battery inspections, traction motors, high-voltage contactors, high voltage drive trains, inverters, and other high-voltage repairs. Must also perform CAN-BUS & J1939 low voltage system troubleshooting & repair.

  • Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers. Assist Parts Department with identifying warranty components.

  • Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of BEB & HEB vehicles and equipment repair under minimal supervision. May perform diagnostic tests utilizing a computer and manufacturer’s software to determine defects. Must possess ability to use DVOM, Mega Ohmmeter, Ammeter & Oscilloscope.

  • Performs preventative maintenance (PM’s), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage. Must also be able to diagnose, maintain & repair Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) & Diesel-Powered vehicles.

  • Remove, overhaul, and reinstall electronic, electro-mechanical & electro-hydraulic components with minimal supervision

  • Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken

  • Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval where required.

  • Leads road calls and emergency services as necessary.

  • Adhere to Transdev standards, policies and procedures.

  • Moves vehicles safely between job and work area.

  • Repair and maintain all shop equipment.

  • Other responsibilities as requested or required.

Describe level of decision making and list examples of common decisions made:

·Understands how to identify High-Voltage Hazards

·Determines how to prioritize tasks.

  • May provide guidance to Technicians in other classifications.

Minimum Education & Certifications Required:

·High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)

·Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire)

·State inspection license (if required)

ASE Master Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program (expected to have 6 ASE within 6 months of hire)

Experience & Skills Required:

·Advanced Electronic & Mechanical Aptitude and 5 years of Battery-Electric or Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Hybrid-Electric repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience. Must possess knowledge of High-Voltage Systems & Equipment.

·Adhere to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards.

·Valid driver’s license

·Advanced problem-solving ability

·Advanced computer skills

·Comfortable using hand tools.

·Excellent customer service skills and communication skills

·Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

·Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment.

·Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.

·Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers.

Possess adequate High-Voltage Technician tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintained in a clean and safe manner.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions (include amount of travel):

·Maintenance Shop environment with dust, dirt, and grease conditions

·Ability to work under all weather conditions.

·Ability to work around High-Voltage Equipment with High-Voltage PPE

·Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Ability to work in a crouched position or on back, lying on mechanic’s creeper, beneath electric vehicle equipment.
