The ADA Community Education and Outreach Project Specialist will lead efforts to build awareness of the critical need for quality public transportation and the role of Paratransit, Flex, and SUBSIDY service plays in the independence and quality of life of San Antonio citizens.
This position will develop programs, collateral materials, and resources to better educate target groups of riders, constituent groups and thought leaders in the city and region to accomplish multiple goals including, but not limited to, the education of the community at large and the aforementioned target groups on the most efficient use of the transit system. They will also educate riders on tools and resources available to assist in gaining greater access to transit services, and engage in rider behaviors/feedback to enhance and improve quality of service.
To increase advocacy efforts in target markets to assist in delivering messages of agency and paratransit to all riders, constituents, and influencer's.
To increase knowledge of existing tools, new technologies, and rules of engagement for riders utilizing system.
To develop partnerships with transit advocacy groups, school groups, community groups, senior centers, and employers to support the paratransit needs for VIA passengers.
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent such as GED, required.
3 - 5 years of combined experience in communications, community engagement, marketing, or related field
Experience in the transportation field preferred
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Must have strong interpersonal skills
Must have the ability to manage effectively in crisis situations and ability to handle sensitive situations in the paratransit service
Oral and written communication skills
Proactive individual who is a self-starter
Ability to serve as a spokesperson in media and other venues to effectively communicate all topics under the direction and supervision of the General Manager
Superior organizational skills
Ability to interact effectively with management, staff, riders, politicians, business leaders, agencies, and others outside the organization
Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
